Colindale to get new ticket office _______________________________________________________________
type Press release
A new ticket office will be built in London Underground’s Colindale Station on the Northern Line, at a cost of £275,000.
The work will start on Sunday 14 September and last ten weeks.
The current ticket office – originally constructed in 1940 following damage during the second world war – has suffered from the effects of subsidence and as a result, cracking has appeared.
The existing office will be completely demolished and rebuilt to prevent further subsidence.
To assist customers while work is being carried out, appropriate tickets can be purchased from two ticket issuing machines that will be in operation at the station. The machines will be regularly re-stocked with change, but, customers may find it helpful to have the correct money with them where possible. In addition, Revenue Control Inspectors will be on hand during the morning peak hour services to issue tickets.
Customers also have several options if they wish to purchase period tickets, including the use of adjacent stations to Colindale or PASS agents in the area.
Customers may find it more convenient, to purchase period tickets from their destination stations. This can be done before current tickets expire.
If new period tickets are needed, or a current ticket has already expired, customers are still able to use their destination stations. However, to avoid travelling without a valid ticket, a single ticket should be purchased and the cost will be deducted from the price of the period ticket.
Wilben Short, General Manager for the Northern Line said: "The work being carried out at Colindale will provide customers with a modern ticket office. Inevitably, there will be some delays to customers purchasing tickets and I apologise now for any additional irritation. We have kept the replacement programme as brief as possible, and hopefully customers will see the benefits following this short disruption."
